Configure UI content

Metadata Capture lets you configure selected messages shown in the application, or user interface content (UI content). Define the default text in config.json and, when needed, change it from the UI content administration page.

Set default UI content

Add a ui_content section to config.json. Each content item can contain English (en) and French (fr) text.

{
"ui_content": {
"first_time_unauthorised_message": {
"en": "Please contact your administrator to gain access to this application.",
"fr": "Contactez votre administrateur pour obtenir l’accès à cette application."
},
"show_notice_on_homepage": {
"en": "This is an important notice for users."
},
"technical_support_message": {
"en": "For technical support, contact us at https://example.org/support"
}
}
}
KeyWhere it appears
first_time_unauthorised_messageThe message shown to a user who does not yet have access to the application.
show_notice_on_homepageThe notice shown on the homepage.
technical_support_messageThe technical-support message in the application footer.
Requirement

You must provide at least one language for each configured item. If a language is not configured, the application uses the available default language where possible.

Manage UI-content overrides

Users with the config:manage permission can change UI content without changing or remounting config.json:

  1. Go to Admin Settings () and select UI Content.

  2. Edit the English or French text for the required item.

  3. Select Save.

Changes made on this page are stored as database overrides. They take precedence over the corresponding config.json default and remain after an application restart.

To use the value in config.json again, select Reset to default for that language. This removes the database override; it does not edit the configuration file.

tip

Use config.json for deployment-wide defaults. Use the UI content page for changes that should be managed by an authorised administrator during normal operation.
