The dataset workflow
Understand the dataset workflow so you can effectively manage datasets within Metadata Capture.
Workflow overview
The dataset workflow in Metadata Capture reflects a typical dataset lifecycle, with additional approval steps to ensure that datasets are properly documented and reviewed before publication.
The following diagram illustrates this workflow. The boxes represent the lifecycle stages, and the arrows indicate the actions required to move the datasets to the next stage. Each stage represents a tab in the dataset panel.
- You can revert datasets to draft at any stage except for Internal and Deprecated datasets.
- To publish internal datasets to public, you must first move them back to the Approved state, and then publish.
Workflow stages
Understand the roles and their hierarchy within Metadata Capture to identify contacts and access support within and outside your organisation.
The following table shows how datasets progress through each stage from creation (draft) to publication and deprecation, and the steps involved in each stage:
Your role determines the actions you can perform and how you can interact with a dataset. Some actions are only available to specific roles. To learn about the available roles and the actions you can perform, see: Roles and permissions.
